Shelterbox for the victims of Cyclone Nargis, Myanmar (Burma) May 2008

ShelterBox allowed into myanmar

At the present time the media are painting a rather grim picture of disaster relief activities in Burma, indicating that many charities are unable to get access to the country and much relief aid is either not entering the country or is being taken by Burma's military authorities.

Whatever the situation affecting other charities, this is not true of ShelterBox.

Tom Henderson (left) founder of the ShelterBox Trust, says that four members of his team have visas and entered Burma on Thursday. A working relationship has been established with the authorities and many of the initial consignment of 640 boxes dispatched from overseas storage points and Water-ma-Trout itself are already in the country, the remainder expected shortly. If all goes according to plan and the funds are available a plane containing a further 1000 boxes will leave Birmingham for Burma early next week. more
